Bringing Art Into Your Home

As an artist and photographer, I truly believe that art belongs in every home — not just for decoration, but to bring life, personality, and memory into the spaces we live in.

Whether it’s your own work, local finds, or pieces you’ve collected over the years, art has the power to transform your home into something deeply personal. It’s colour, it’s texture, it’s story.

Here are a few ways I like to approach art in interiors — both practically and meaningfully:

Let It Reflect You

Choose pieces that resonate with who you are — your story, your experiences, your taste. Whether it’s photography, painting, sculpture, or something handmade, the art you live with should feel like you.

Tell a Story

Curate your walls with intention. Gallery walls, collages of family photos, or even one powerful piece can say so much. Consider themes, colour palettes, or even a mood you want your space to hold.

Support Local

One of the most rewarding ways to collect art is by supporting local artists. Visit markets, open studios, exhibitions — or commission a custom piece. You’re not only bringing something unique into your home, but you’re also investing in your community.

Play with Texture

Don’t be afraid to mix mediums. Combine prints with woven pieces, textiles with sculpture, photography with painting. Texture adds depth, and layering invites curiosity.

Think Beyond the Frame

Art doesn’t always have to be hung on the wall. Lean larger pieces on shelves, layer them behind furniture, or create mini vignettes on sideboards. Let your space be flexible and evolving.

Create Visual Flow

Plan your layout with the room in mind. Think about eye level, balance, and breathing room. Step back often — your art should work with your space, not fight for attention.

Art invites feeling, connection, and creativity into your home. You don’t need a huge collection or an interior design background — just trust your eye, follow your instincts, and enjoy the process of making your space feel like yours.

Let me know if you’ve discovered any great local artists recently or want help arranging a wall — I love this stuff.
